Hot Chocolate Book Club meets again in March

If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have time to write – Stephen King

We’ve all heard accomplished authors say that the best way for writers to improve their craft is to read widely. This March, the Hot Chocolate Book Club is reading Matilda by Roald Dahl.

  • Date: March 2nd (Friday)
  • Time: 5:00pm – 6:30pm
  • Book: Matilda*

* Matilda, by Roald Dahl, Ages 7 and up (240 pages)
The success of the recent movie version should encourage kids to read the hilarious, thought-provoking original novel. Matilda is a genius who not only has to deal with loud, obnoxious, idiot parents who scapegoat her for everything but with “the Trunchbull”! “The Trunchbull” is actually Miss Trunchbull the ex-Olympic hammer-thrower, Head Mistress of Matilda’s school who has terrorized generations of students and teachers. When “the Trunchbull” goes after Miss Honey, the one teacher, the one person, who supports and believes in Matilda, our heroine decides it’s time to fight back. Her parents and “the Trunchbull” don’t stand a chance!

Eye Level Bridgewater introduces the Hot Chocolate Book Club. Immerse yourself into the joy of reading.

Announcing “Create Your Own World” Creative Writing Workshop

Many of you asked us to put together a workshop that teaches kids various forms of creative writing- something that compels them to imagine and, more importantly, teaches them how to express themselves through creative writing.

The Eye Level Bridgewater team spent the last month brainstorming a wide variety of topics. We concluded that for kids with active imaginations, inventing one’s own world is often the ultimate challenge. It’s the brass ring of creating stories. Hence the topic.

The objective of the “Create Your Own World” workshop is to use higher order of thinking by synthesizing own creative story after creating a visual representation of his/her own world. The workshop will also cover in detail the basic areas of Creative writing- brainstorming, drafting a story, revising, proof-reading, grammar, vocabulary, presentation, etc.

Eye Level Bridgewater participated in the 2011 4-H Somerset County Fair for the first time this year and it was a roaring success! It was held on August 10,11 and 12 at the North Branch Park on Milltown Road, Bridgewater. It was open from 10AM-10PM everyday.

Since 1948, thousands of visitors have enjoyed the Somerset County 4-H Fair. The Fair has grown and changed, but there are still no admission or parking fees, no midway or carnival rides. This Fair recognizes the accomplishments of 1,000 Somerset County 4-H members and is a showcase for visitors to see a wide variety of 4-H projects in action.

The Eye Level Bridgewater booth was one of the busiest and most fun booths! Parents as well as kids couldn’t resist the tempation of trying various Critical Thinking puzzles and games. Thanks to all the local Bridgewater residents for stopping by our booth and taking the time to learn about Eye Level It indeed makes learning fun!
